Gladiators Activate MLB Brian Brikowski

The Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League activated MLB Brian Brikowski on Thursday, the team announced. Brikowski will be in uniform and make his 2016 debut on Saturday, June 11th when the Gladiators visit the Orlando Predators at 7:30 p.m.

Brikowski, 27, returns for his fifth season with the Gladiators after splitting the majority of his time the last two years with the Gladiators and Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.

‘Brik’ as most players and fans affectionately call him, brings valuable experience to the Gladiators defense and some familiarity for the coaching staff.

“It’s great to have Brian back on the field for us,” said Head Coach Steve Thonn. “In addition to being a great pass rusher, he brings a ton of AFL experience to our defense. His knowledge of our scheme will allow him to be able to come in and contribute right away.”

For his AFL career, Brikowski has made 61 tackles while generating 10.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries in just 27 games over a four-year span with the Gladiators and briefly in 2013 with the Chicago Rush.

Prior to turning pro, the 6’5”, 265 lb. Brikowski played collegiately at Monmouth after transferring from the University of Akron.

In a corresponding move, the Gladiators have activated DB Jamie Bender to the roster and placed DL Abe Koroma on inactive reserve as well placing OL Skyler Burkland on injured reserve. Additionally, the team also announced that it has placed QB Chris Dieker on reassignment.
