Gladiators Assigned Four Including QB Havrilla

The Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League have been assigned QB Dennis Havrilla, OL Jesse Somsel and WR’s Quentin Sims and A.J. Barker.

Havrilla, 28, enters his third season in the AFL after spending the 2015 season with the Las Vegas Outlaws, where he threw for 722 yards and 14 touchdowns. Havrilla spent his 2014 rookie season with the San Jose SaberCats.

“Dennis gives us a quarterback that has worked his way up through a couple different indoor leagues,” Head Coach Steve Thonn said. “He has been with a few AFL teams and has done well in every chance he’s been given to play. He gets better every year, knows the arena game, and now gives us two veteran guys at the position.”

A Concord, Calif., native, Havrilla played collegiately at Western New Mexico University, where he threw for 1,581 yards and 13 touchdowns his senior season.

Somsel, 24, enters his first season in the AFL as a rookie after spending time in camp with the Minnesota Vikings of the NFL in 2015.

A Rockford, Mich., native, Somsel played collegiately at Saginaw Valley State where he started 32 career games in four years and helped anchor an offensive line that generated 267.4 yards per-game on offense in 2014 and 476.7 yards-per- and 37.8 points-per-game in 2013. He was also part of the state champion football and wrestling teams at Rockford High School.

Sims, 25, enters his third season in the AFL. Sims spent the 2015 season with the Arizona Rattlers where he played in one game and caught two touchdowns passes. Prior to joining Arizona, Sims played his 2014 rookie season with the Orlando Predators.

Sims signed as an undrafted free agent with the New England Patriots in 2013 after finishing his collegiate career at Tennessee-Martin. During his senior year at Tennessee-Martin, Sims caught 86 passes for 1,092 yards and a single-season record 16 touchdowns. Sims also holds the career receiving touchdown mark for the Skyhawks with 26.

The Cincinnati, Ohio, native transferred to Tennessee-Martin for his senior season in 2012 after playing the previous two seasons at Georgia Tech.
